The 50-minute sessions once a week were opportunities for the team to connect and grow as a unit while learning tools and skills that were helpful to them on and off of the cross-country course. The sessions also gave me material and content to add to my daily coaching and interactions with student-athletes. I became more aware of my words and actions as a coach, and this bled over into my roles outside of coaching of being a teacher, a husband, and a father. We could always race full gas, but working on controlling the ‘controllables’ and staying focused and present were new to us. The season was special for the boy's team, ending with the first Massachusetts Division 2 State Championship in school history. Even after our programming and the season ended, anyone watching our student-athletes compete throughout the track season could see reminders of the impact that bmindful had on the team: most runners were still writing positive messages with Sharpie on their hands and wrists on race day, with reminders like "Breathe" or "Focus" making consistent appearances. And a year later, that is still happening! bmindful has given both the coaches and the student-athletes in our program the tools needed to be their best selves every day!”
